SpeechStudio Releases Speech Tools for Visual Basic

Speech Recognition for Visual Basic Applications

Portland, OR, Oct. 30, 2001: SpeechStudio Inc. today began shipping SpeechStudio Suite for Visual Basic 2.0, its complete software development solution for adding speech recognition interfaces to Microsoft Windows applications.  SpeechStudio Suite is a revolutionary new application that easily enables developers to add speech recognition to new or existing application programs using industry-standard Microsoft Visual Studio.

“I have found SpeechStudio easy to use, highly effective for my application, flexible, and well integrated with Visual Basic,” said Steve Kaye, senior developer at Pitney Bowes.  “The documentation is quite good and technical support has been excellent.”

SpeechStudio includes everything a software developer needs to add speech recognition to a new or existing Microsoft Windows application, along with two in-depth tutorials: a voice-enabled version of the Scribble drawing program and full start-to-finish example of a voice-activated calculator.

SpeechStudio Suite includes one year of technical support and five development tools:

  • SpeechStudio XML Grammar Editor.

  • SpeechRunner, a complete testing solution for voice-enabled applications.

  • SpeechPlayer, a freely redistributable runtime system for Microsoft SAPI 5.

  • SpeechCollector, a voice-sample collector and prompt recorder.

  • Lexicon Builder Pro, a vocabulary builder.

A free 30-day trial of SpeechStudio Suite is available directly from SpeechStudio’s web site, http://www.speechstudio.com/visual_basic.

According to Dr. Stephen F. Zeigler, CEO of SpeechStudio Inc., now is the right time to consider speech enabling applications.  “Speech will add value to most applications today, but next year speech will be the key enabling technology for high-power applications on handheld PCs and PDAs.  Products that get a jump on speech will have a decided advantage when the next generation platforms are released.”

Early access customer Karthik K. Rishi, of Encodex Technologies Inc., said, “Time to learn and become productive is very minimal.  I was particularly impressed with the ease with which we were able to generate the grammar file and the output SpeechStudio resource file.”

Voice-enabled applications can be deployed on any system with Microsoft SAPI 5, Microsoft's royalty free speech-recognition and text-to-speech software.  SAPI 5 ships with Office XP and Windows XP, and is included with SpeechStudio Suite.
